It's great that we're making the same money as our buddies at Delta and American, but I'd also like to be at an airline where I can tell myself "This airline will be around long after I turn 65."

Unfortunately, in the last couple years Jetblue has stopped being that airline. The hyper-focus on PR, DR, NYC, and Florida is just a major red flag that we are a rudderless ship. We couldn't hack it as a Varsity team so now we're tucking tail and going back to play Little League.

Oh, and it would also be nice if I could take my family on vacation without having to buy tickets on our competition.

Right. I’m for whatever makes us money. We can’t be everything to everyone. Look at AK they know who they are and what they are and they do it well.

I do agree focus on what we have now build it back up and run it well. Europe is fine because that’s where people want to go from JFK and BOS. I guess we will see.

I was once last year trying to book a flight for three soccer teams, parents, and coaches nine months ahead of time for a soccer tournament in DFW and I was told we would have to overnight in BOS to make our connection because we only fly once to DFW at 0 dark 30 from one base and then I was told we would have to overnight in BOS on the way back because we only fly once at 0 dark 30 to my home destination. I told the agent, NO THANK YOU!
American got the money from 110 paxs and we flew direct.
Winning!

Why American wouldn’t be your first option flying to DFW is beyond me, but hey, you sure showed us! 😂

Comparing ourselves to Alaska is not the goal here. Yea, we need to get back making a profit, but we should have bigger goals than “bread and butter” East Coast routes. IMO, we need to invest in one Midwest city as a base….ie Chicago.

Chicago? And how would you do that? My point about AK is we keep getting told if we had a large route map and we’re not “regional” we could compete better. That obviously isn’t the case as I look at AK. But they actually run an airline. I’m not saying they are the end all be all just that it can be done and done well. We have a great position in BOS JFK and FLL and room to grow in MCO. We should focus there and build those out.

look we are not one of the big guys heck the big guys were not giants until the mergers (which apparently we can’t do) we will never be them so we should just focus on what we can be and be it well.

All that said I still think we end up getting sucked up by AK and it would definitely be approved.

We do not want any part of Alaska. Yea they make money, but every person I’ve known that worked there hated it for a myriad of reasons. As far as Chicago “how would we do that”….thats not my job to figure that out. But as the 3rd largest city in our country located directly in the middle, it would behoove our management to figure it out….that is their job. The fact that we won’t spend the proper amount of resources to establish routes in cities we aren’t familiar with speaks to our B Team management. We just spent 500 mil and 2 years of wasted growth on a failed merger that was doomed from the start, and we can’t spend money to bring in actual talent to run this place? Cant spend to establish our selves in unfamiliar markets??
Do you realize how many people in the Midwest would love to travel Europe on a premium product for a less expensive price?
Instead, we have Joanna meeting up with Dave Barger to talk more about?? You guessed it….culture. We are doomed if this lady thinks culture is going to save us. Anyway, back to my day.

There is zero means to growing in ORD. You would pull resources out of places that we need to be reinforcing like BOS and FLL to put them in ORD to eventually get run out of town by UA and AA. It would quite literally be impossible to compete. The only midwestern city that wouldn’t be constrained is maybe Detroit and even that’s a stretch. The Midwest makes zero sense a growing city would be the best bet now such as an Austin. And it would still be country center.
