I doubt you see JFK-LAX-JFK turns for the airspace/delay reasons you mentioned. That return leg LAX-JFK would be a doozy
I agree there. FL turns would be a little less of a mess given there generally shorter duration. I have heard that either DL or UA tried this in the past and it didnt last too long.

But, is a circle really the best shape for a wheel? Let’s try and reinvent it. We’re smarter than everyone else.

Not if the other guys have already tried the tactic and it was a bust. Because we don't learn from others' mistakes, and we certainly never learn from our own.

Our leadership pats themselves on the back for "disrupting the airline business model" whether it works or not. We keep trying to go against the grain, hence his "reinvent the wheel" expression. We'll come up with some idea and work out 80% of the kinks, then we hope that our culture will make up for the lack of planning and preparation; in other words that our front-line people will figure out the other 20% on the fly, and the crazy idea will make us the big winners in the airline world.

Locking the Mint suite doors open saves money. How do you feel about that one?

I’ll tell you how to save money. Spend a bit of money to teach the gate agents how to operate the jet bridge and you’ll save a bunch of money in fuel costs.

The FAA asked us to come up with a plan on how the existing 4 FAs would open the doors in an emergency. Apparently we sat on it for 6-8 months and never came up with a plan. Then a month or two ago -- whenever it was that we started flying with 5 -- the FAA basically said...welp, if you can't come up with a plan, we'll make one for you: 5 FAs. Now. So we scrambled for a couple days trying to fill all the flights with an extra body. That's what happened.

If we can't figure that out...

I believe we only need to have 5% one day pairings, right? So with 25 departures a day, that's only about 1 trip per day and we're currently running SLC and SJD, so I don't see how/why have an augmented 1 day double transcon would make sense. Am I missing something?

I wouldn’t be surprised to see SLC and SJD disappear if the transcon turns work out

Every JetBlue flight has to touch NYC, Boston, or San Juan. That's the winning plan.

Back in the NE alliance day.....I believe greater than 88% touched JFK,BOS,LGA, EWR...... I was shown a spreadsheet from a line construction committee guy.

I mean why NOT put all your eggs in one basket...that way when ATC shortages disproportionately effect you can say It's out of your control.......I mean sounds much better than "Gee we suck, and we should have better contingency planning by diversifying our network"...............if only there were numerous consultancy groups and a pilot group who had screamed this for years.
