I don't know if you're aware, but Alaska only has ETOPS on some of its 737s. The ones that go to-from Hawaii have leis around Barbara Bush on the tails.
If JB had acquired HA, I would have expected the sub-fleet that operated in that theater to be called Blue Hawaiian or similar, painted on the side and used for branding in that part of the network.

I don't know if you're aware, but that type of colonial cis white man oppression is not ok in almost 2024. And Barbara Bush was a handsome woman.

So that’s what they are drinking down in the Lodge 😂
I think it boils down to who will be in the drivers seat of the next merger. If JetBlue mgmt has their way they yes it will be Blue lei logos and Barb wearing a blue coat. If Alaska has their way then the merger will have distinct separate brands. I’m thinking this will be option #2.

But when you add JB, I don't think you get the merger branding synergies by running three separate names. Maybe two (HA), but not three, in my opinion.

Ohhhh so one indigenous group giving a subtle nod of respect to the other is absolutely the same thing as equating them to gimmicky cocktail.

Blue Hawaiian would LITERALLY be keeping the entire Hawaiian name on the side of the jet and in marketing for that theater.
And when Alaska flys BOS-SAN, which indigenous people are they honoring? Alaska sled dogs? If JB and ALK ever merge in the future, it would be to create a widespread international airline, spanning much of the globe and a large domestic network. I doubt they will keep the sled dog name just to honor native Alaskan's from the 49th state.

The judge has a new case starting Jan 2 with the court closed Jan 1. Today or tomorrow might make sense for him to have a ruling. I am still guessing that the stock only jumps to low 20’s with the potential for future setbacks prior to a closing. I am still confident in JetBlue winning this case.

It wasn't me who was suggesting JB pursue HA, and I hadn't said whether it would or would not be a good idea. I was responding to someone else's fantasy.
And it still very much remains an open question if Alaska can/will get the synergies/efficiencies/brand-network relevance traditionally sought by airline mergers by operating two separate brands.
But, JB was in talks with HA after the VA merger fell through, but ultimately determined the network synergies and other desired benefits just weren't there.
But, if JB was to acquire HA, I do not believe they would operate it as a completely separate brand, but likely as a distinctly and subtly different part of the JB brand.

The judge can file his decision with the court electronically at any time. The judge could uphold the injunction (stop the merger), allow the merger, or require remedies or divestitures to approve the merger. He could call for another court day to discuss those remedies but most onlookers don’t see that as a likely outcome.
