I think most of Wall Street doesn’t even know there’s a trial going on. This is such an insignificant part of institutional investors portfolios they are busy researching things that can make them real money. I’m following the case very closely (I’m not a lawyer). But, even the most anti-merger “experts” agree that’s it’s at least a 50/50 chance it’s approved. If it’s approved the Spirit shareholders make out, if it’s not the stock will be down 60-70% overnight. Right now it looks like betting on black or red at the roulette table. At this point in the trial I wouldn’t look to Wall Street to estimate an outcome.

It's probably priced closer to 60/40 it goes through. But I agree with the originally quoted post. The merger arbitrage folks aren't really piling in to this one.

I disagree with you here....at least on todays performance. SAVE is down -5.80% at time of post.............other airlines are red some are green but the range is -1.43% to +0.58%
What's different about SAVE? The bleeping trial.

Two questions.

One, do you know what judge Young is thinking, and how well the trial is going?

Two, how would you expect Wall Street to know more than you know about what judge Young is thinking?

Uncertainty will always bring more caution.

Riddle me this: If NK is down because the money is on the merger being denied, why isn’t JBLU up this last week for the same reason? Wasn’t that the assumption, JBLU would go up if merger is denied?

The plaintiff’s case is a loser, but the verdict could go either way. Up to the Judge on that. But to pretend like anyone on APC has the slightest clue of why Wall Street is doing what’s it doing is laughable.

I think the concern now is both airlines are headed for BK if the merger is denied. At least that’s the narrative being played

Well, it feels to me like someone (probably a computer program) is hunting stop losses. Combined with the gambling nature of this play, that's enough to give significant downward pressure, no matter what appears to be the final verdict.

Wouldn't that be a ***** to get stopped out, only for the merger to be approved and miss out on $33/share....
