No... AS is just gonna stick their head in the sand, or curl up in the fetal position in a corner, and wait for this to all blow over.

For the Spirit folks, many will probably have to start commuting, bc JB doesn’t seem to care for small satellite bases at all. I just can’t see them keeping all of Spirit’s current bases. I would expect them to consolidate those into B6’s existing hubs with *maybe* 1-2 strategic holdovers like LAS.

Totally hope this is just a ploy to run the price up or create a poison pill as a temporary defensive tactic
The biggest problem for B6 are the 190s. They are a lower status and category than an Airbus. So those Captains are below all Airbus Captains and the FOs are below all FOs. The smaller planes at B6 benefit the Spirit Pilots greatly.

I’m guessing 75% weight for status and category and 25% for longevity…

Those 60 190s are going away. “Career expectations” are over half of them will be gone in 2.5 years, the rest gone in 3.5 years. If the merger goes through, it’ll be quicker than that and they’ll likely get parked within 1 year of the merger being finalized. Their replacement is 100 A220-300s, which currently pay more than any airplane on property at spirit and are roughly equal to a 319 in size/capability. And on the other end, jetblue has a lot more 321s, which on some pay scales are higher paying, but regardless are larger. So, there’s definitely and argument on the opposite side.

I think it’d be closer to 50/50 longevity/seniority, but either way B6 pilots will likely get screwed. I’m guessing the bulk of B6 pilots would integrate with spirit counterparts who have later DOHs. Is what it is. Nobody will be happy about it if it goes through, except for maybe a few. I’m sure the guys who left spirit for jetblue who will be junior to themselves will be really happy lol.

With the way things have been going, B6 pilots getting screwed is exactly what will happen if this merger (or acquisition) is somehow allowed to pass.

Very unlikely, well, almost certainly the union had no clue. These are publicly traded companies and something like this is held very tightly to only a small group of people, insider trading rules and so on.

The company might have just said "we really, really need this LOA, please make it pass so good things will come your way" or something obscure like that, but definitely not that there will be a buyout of another airline.
