You know, a buffer to prevent your positive space commute from working. 9 open seat? Sorry, there are no positive space seats available for booking... That's a BlueJet style buffer. I've seen 15+ seats open, still wouldn't allow a positive space booking.

And you do have United ZED business class access? Can someone independently confirm this?
Independent of me just telling you? Am I that untrustworthy?!

Yup, you are correct. Also, Parents have business class privileges on a few carriers. UAL being one of them.

My understanding is that is to leave room for any deadheads that inevitably are generated by our operation. you can sit in those seats as a standby.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

15+ deadheads on a non-hub to hub flight? I think it's to leave room for revenue ticket sales.

No that’s incorrect… they have a “projected load” that is always changing based on booking trends/historical data/etc, we don’t get to see that number (at my old carrier we did) but when it starts reaching the aircraft’s capacity that is why you can’t book positive space even though you know it has open seats. Next time you see that go look and you’ll still see seats for sale on the website. They are not going to give up revenue on the off chance they might need it for deadheaders…. If they need to they just kick people off!

I have just noticed that there are a lot of withheld seats on the standby list lately and they open them up before they close out the flight. I know JG said something about "leaving room" on critical flights so we can respond to unforseen events without impacting customers. Who knows though.

Maybe some seats on hub to hub flights. But the ones I saw were not hub to hub, where you could or would NEVER need 15+ seats for a DH.
