And the trip variety will never be as good as the largest fleet, just due to math. I think it's an interesting narrative that people have built that the A320 is "old technology."

The Tesla will be more efficient, no question, but the Corolla will make up for that in the cost aspect of longevity and mechanical headaches.

Have you been in an A220 cockpit yet? I've talked to a few guys who still haven't seen the inside of an A220. The legacy Airbus cockpit looks archaic in comparison. I agree that the airplane has serious teething issues, but the route variety should increase as more airframes arrive. Plus, with Robin working at Airbus now, perhaps he can push for the newer A220-500 version since he was begging for it for many years prior to his departure. Now he can sell the airplane to JB and others if it gets the development green light. The bigger A220-500 will put the A320 CEO & NEO to shame in terms of its lower CASM. Future fleet mix could be A220-300, A220-500 and A321 NEO/LR/XLR (unless Carl Icahn disagrees of course).

The belief in him is beyond me. Under his tenure are two failed mergers and a once profitable and growing airline floundering in his wake.

Why, you ask? Because quite frankly, as airline pilots, gee-whiz screens and ECLs are cool for about a month, then the reality of using the jet sets in. What I hear from my friends, is that compared to the 320 fleet: the 220 seats are lousy, it's noisier, the tray table is a flimsy gimmick, they miss being able to open a window for fresh air at the gate, and they are tired of the constant electrical resets, plus weight restrictions since we ordered the cheap version of the -300.
Don't get me wrong, the jet is a great ride in the back, our customers love it, and I'm glad that we ordered it instead of the E-2. But Airbus got an awful lot of things right from a flight deck ergonomics perspective 40 years ago with the original 320 series. Most of us will not see it as a net positive to our work lives if the 220 replaces the 320 as the mainstay of our fleet.
