I took that to mean they were washing people out to reduce the inflow of new people.
I feel I must clarify part of my previous post. In hindsight, I should have stated 50% of our last planned new hire class either did not show up to ground school, did not make it through training, or quit prior to or shortly after the completion of IOE.

This statement's purpose was to explain our current staffing challenges, and the implications of management's future fleet policies, plans, and investment (or lack there of). The training department here is world class. I believe we are second to none in that regard. Horizon does everything possible to make sure new hires succeed. We have a vested interest to make sure that happens. I could never envision anyone purposefully washing out any applicant. That part of my letter was poorly worded and I apologize.

I think calling the training department at QX "world class" is a little misleading. Have you been through another airline's training program? Just curious. I thought newhire training here was very disorganized and was very difficult for those with a CFI background (ie no 121 or 135).

Edit: maybe theyve cleaned it up since I went through (Jan '14)... ?

I have been through multiple airline initials. QX Training is quite good. Maybe it wasn't the training that was disorganized?

I thought QX had a great training program. I went through Trans States training prior to QX, and I thought there was a significant difference between the two - especially for a fresh CFI type. We only lost one from my class. We had a true had a 40% washout in my TSA class.

Though the training at QX might not be perfect, I thought it was laid out pretty well. I appreciated the time spent going over flows and procedures in the SPT and FMS labs. Trans States pointed us to a FMS sim on their one student computer and told us to figure it out in our own time.

AQP has really made the night and day difference for every airline that has adopted it. I will say that my program at TSA was a traditional PC type ride, shortly before they also adopted AQP. Going through AQP at QX took a lot of pressure off.

Recently, I went through a Part 91 type ride at CAE - talk about unorganized! I think that experience made any regional's training department look professional.

I don't discount whatever bad experience someone might have had before me, but if you're considering QX as a place to get your time and to live in the PNW, I wouldn't let the training dept. dissuade you.

QX has a far better training department than either of the other regionals I worked at... I have heard from multiple people in the jumpseat that stated that the training they received at QX was better than that they just got at (insert mainline here).
