I have an interview in a couple of weeks and was hoping for BOI due to my current situation. I haven't read the forum for a while and I am pretty bummed from what I have been reading. Is the 50% wash out/quit rate for the new hires due to the 30% downsizing? Why not just reduce the amount of new people they bring on?

Just out of curiosity, where did you get the 50% from? We do have quite a few pilots leaving each month but it's not from washing out. As stated above, you'll do just fine. This training department is superb. Good luck!

Thank you for the words of encouragement. Horizon sounds like a great company and I am excited for the chance to interview. I got the 50% from Mountaingoat's post yesterday where he said, "In our most recent class of new hires, 50% either washed out or quit before the end of simulator training." I took that to mean they were washing people out to reduce the inflow of new people.

My understanding is that our training department has had to crack down on new-hires somewhat, after an incident last year where someone who had struggled in training finally managed to get through IOE and onto the line, where they then managed to trigger the stick shaker twice on the same leg (at that point, they were fired).
That incident, combined with some people taking an absurd amount of time to get through IOE (100+ hours, when the average is 30-40) lead to some pretty big shakeups in our training department, so I'd guess a higher washout rate is mostly a combination of increased scrutiny and a somewhat lower quality of applicants than are ideal.
