It depends. Back when I went through we all had to do the sim. It seems recently that the ticket to avoiding it is a bunch of recent 121 time.

To answer some of the questions that were unanswered a bit ago, I applied almost exactly one week ago, and just got a call earlier today for an interview on Aug 26th. Also, I live in PHX, and was wondering if anyone had any opinions/experience commuting from here to any of those Oregon/WA bases

I was thinking the same thing. I also think it's funny that QX is recruiting at job fairs in DFW and ATL.... seems like it would be a hard sell to somebody in those areas.

I'm planning on moving to the Pacific Northwest in about a year, to wherever I would get based. Is commuting for a year unbearable?
Also, I'm not sure how I feel about Mesa. From what research I've done and what I've read I think I'd prefer Horizon. Isn't the pay at horizon better than most other regionals? And assuming I live where I'm based, I feel QX is what I'm looking for.

Commuting for a year is possible, but not enjoyable. Most trips aren't commutable.

If you are planning on moving to PNW have you thought about Compass? They're plenty of rumors about them opening a SEA base. Worst case you could commute to LAX which wouldn't be nearly as difficult as some of QX's outstations on busy days.
