Horizon ATP Written
#2
It has been a while since I looked at Horizon. If they list ATP written on their hiring requirements I would have it before the interview. That way if they offer you a class date you don't have to rush to get the written out of the way before you go to class.

That's a long way off to look forward in this industry...hopefully they'll be hiring for ya then! Does anybody know what they're doing these days? Last I heard they planned on hiring a grand total of 3 guys for the remainder of the year??

I don't think they're hiring any more this year.
No, ATP written is not a requirement. (At least is wasn't last November.)
You didn't ask but I'll offer anyway.... great company to work for. Just be aware of the excruciating upgrade time. Talk to an FO who's been in the right seat of the Q200 for 6 years making $37/hour and you'll know what I mean.

You dont need the ATP written to get hired at Horizon. So far this summer we've hired 3 people I think...Usually hiring slow down in the summer and we are understaffed right now. If they follow the normal trend, there probably will be classes in octobe, november, december, january and then about 5 or 6 guy from that point until the rest of the summer. Seriously...
I would seriously consider somewhere else. Skywest or ExpressJet. Go somewhere where you wouldnt have to sign a training contract that has a quicker upgrade. It's a great company to work for but after about 6-12 monts on reserve and doing Seattle to Victoria all day, you would wish you for something different. Just being from the NW or wanting to live here just isn't worth it. Go somewhere where you would have some options and variety.
Horizon is not a growing company at this point, it's a shrinking company. New Q400's are coming but more Q200's are going away. After the transitions are all over we will have 5 less airplanes than we do now. This could means longer reserve, longer upgrade, longer time to wait for the schedules you want.
Just my .02 cents...

I second that. Whoever said they were 6 year Q200 and is making $37 is lying. Second year guys are getting more than that. Second year pay goes to 32.04 for small turboprop pay and that usually last about 1 to 2 bid based on your seniority. Then about 3 monts later goes to 38.62...Not great like you guys mentioned before
