First of all, you sound way too smart to be a pilot ;-).
I'm sorry to hear that you're not flying as much as you'd like. Having been on reserve for over five years (and abused for much of that time), I find it nearly unbelievable that FO reserves are just sitting around. This is so unlike Horizon that it just boggles the imagination - but I suppose the staffing meltdown in 2016/2017 finally got management's attention.
One suggestion: Would it be possible for you to get a second job within the company? We're almost always looking for people to work in the training department or on technical programs (such as FOQA and ASAP). I've seriously considered applying to teach VPT/SPT or to work as a simulator instructor. After eighteen years in the Q400, I think I'm almost qualified to teach in the aircraft (!).
Taking a job in the training department or in Flight Ops technical would be a great way to improve your own qualifications and might allow you to make some extra money as well. In addition, it's a great way to help out the new guys/gals and improve the safety and efficiency of our operation. I know you're still fairly new to the company, but it sounds like you have some previous work experience that might be extremely valuable.
