Their pilots fought, and struck for their contract, that they deserved, and are paid OK. However, Virgin is the only airline that offers what people complain about, and is dying. People on here will bash VX pilots for being paid less than industry average, and then 2 seconds later, laugh at the airline for losing $650m since inception, as if the airline has money to give it's pilots raises.
Ouch, just read the history on spirit... Fees, fees, fees... And this little gem "On 2nd January 2013, the airline consumer service Skytrax downgraded Spirit from 3 to 2 stars (on a scale of five, 5 being best) due to, in its opinion, general deterioration of service quality"

It's a shame. I've NonRev'd on VX and its a superior product compared to what many majors put out. I don't understand how they're not making money? Now, their pilot uniforms are horrendous but that's another discussion.

From what I've heard from pilots at both carriers, the QOL at Virgin is substantially better (see 17 days off with commutable pairings)

Spirit is easily the worst airline to fly on in the United States, in terms of customer service, and inflight amenities.

However, how can Honey Boo Boo's cousins fly from Detroit to Orlando for $20 a person

On EWR ground control 20 something years ago.
Continental 123 follow the Virgin Heavy to 22R.

All,
Holding a line and being on reserve are two totally different animals at VA.
The good questions to ask are:
1) How long will new-hires be on reserve?
2) What are the reserve rules?

And that's relevant.........how??

They just want to make sure you'll have no problem finding a second job to help make ends meet.
With the exception of the QRH and normal checklist, the airline is paperless. All ground school/initial will be done online and with the EFB on the plane, documetns are pdf file. Knowing how to use Office products, Adobe Reader, and email is essential for the job. If you can't do that, you haven't been alive since 1998.
