I honestly believe doing well on the assessment is most important. As long as you have at least an ATP and 4000TT, ace the assessment and you're very likely to get the email questionnaire (the next step).

And JFK is super senior, there's no way you'd get it as a newhire. You can expect either LAX or SFO right off the bat.

If they cannot figure out how to make more money than they spend, you will never be a well-compensated pilot group. All your hard work and enthusiasm and customer service will be for nothing. All you will get is just enough pay and propaganda to inspire maximum productivity until the well runs dry, and then: lights out.
I agree, the greatest predictor of a highly compensated employee group is a highly profitable employer. Except if you are US Airways in 2011, 2012, and 2013, with a USAPA pilot group. Then management makes money hand over fists, while the pilot group enjoys their forced B scale to keep AWA as a separate list. Last year, VX got a pay increase and some positive QOL changes. This year, the same is expected. Normally, in the past, during the board meetings in Jan and Feb, they decide the raises and changes and annonce it to be affective April 1.

In the end we all make decisions based on what we feel is important: Some are gamblers, some are enticed by the excitement of something shiny and new, some like the idea of doing something “different” that everyone else out there just doesn’t get. Then again, some look at the numbers and say to themselves “this just doesn’t add up”. Remember Greenspan’s “irrational exuberance” comment?
Or how about, NO one else above a regional was hiring, except Spirit and Virgin America?

In the meantime, you should not be surprised by the less than enthusiastic support of your other airline colleagues whose financial well-being your very existence is holding back by flooding the market with underpriced product (and I’m not talking about wages here, I’m talking about selling tickets at a cost less than that required to provide the lift). This hurts the bottom line of ALL airlines, not just your own.
Because your airline isn't guilty of doing this same thing at some point? It's a competitive market. For example, do I think there should be more than one airline that flies nonstop from SFO/LAX to EWR? Yes. But do I think it should be legal that as soon as someone announces 3 roundtrips a day that the remaining legacy increases their flights from 8 daily roundtrips to 16? No. But no matter, time will tell how this route plays out. EWR is slot controlled, so UniCal couldn't have increased SFO/EWR without pulling back some other routes for takeoff/landing slots.

In the end, I guess I’ll try to stay positive and just say: I truly hope that everyone who wants to work for Virgin America gets their wish.
Me too.

Curious concerning something about VA...I have flown 121 but not for a bit, about two years ago I put the app into VA and have kept updating it...nothing happened.

I put an update in during December of 2012 (the main update was a renewal of my Examiner status on the 737 NG to include "All 737 types) and heard nothing.

Then today I get an email directing me to a link which was a "entertaining" multipart thing of simple (but you had to think of them) word problems in logic, some personality questions, some situation questions and then after that another email directing me to another VA page which wanted some specifics on my flying stuff and to reaffirm I was interested in a flight deck position there.

Is this just normal when they cull the apps or what?

thanks in advance for the answer..

That's standard for anyone applying. I believe the email you get after successful assessment completion is a bit more thorough. I'm not sure anyone has received that next step email yet since the window just opened Monday.
