European pilot base for FEDEX or UPS?
Hi, I saw on this site's FEDEX page that it mentions a CDG base opening or open recently, and was wondering if there's actually FEDEX pilots based there. Could someone in the know let me know
Also interested if there's any UPS or FEDEX pilot bases anywhere in Europe?
I have US quals and time logged.
Thanks,
Tank
p.s. Thanks Dog for the info; Great forum!

As of right now, there is no Fedex pilot domicile in Europe. There is a hub, meaning a big sort facility. There is, however, SIBA out of CDG on the Airbus. What this means in regular words is that Airbus pilots in Memphis bid three month period schedules in CDG. They only go over for their trips- its not like they live there. We do the same thing with South America on the 727.
Pilot domiciles are MEM (most pilots), LAX (small MD-11), ANC (even smaller MD-11) and Subic (small Airbus). Subic is slated to close in 2008. Rumor has it there will be another asian domicile, but no one knows where. The reason for the move is the Subic hub is being moved to the one being built in China.
There have always been rumors about Fedex opening a domicile in the EU, but as we say, until it's painted purple and sitting on the ramp, I don't believe it. Zurich was the front runner, but there are many problems with EU rules, working spouses, schooling for families, costs, etc.
So, if you want to fly for Fedex in Europe, you have to get on the regular way, wait to bid an Airbus seat, then wait to bid SIBA. It tends to go senior. The MD-11 flies through EU a lot, too.
