Default Where to look and what to look for?

Ok, I hope it is ok, I joined to ask these questions. I am not a pilot myself but am the wife of one.
A little history here and then what I need help with.
We have been married for 7 years have 3 children. I cannot even remember how many times we have moved for jobs that would fit our family life. Seems companies will say anything to get you to move then wham your a slave to them. Right now hubby gets 5 days off a month and works on call 12 hour shifts that requires him to be on base. Well, our kids don't know him and if he is working that much you know we aren't having any fun either.
So my question is how do I help him find the job he is really looking for? He has flown mainly cargo and charter, part 135, has over 4000TT hrs, ATPL, 2500 PIC, jet time and international flying, no type ratings.
With him working constantly, I am the one sending out resumes, filling out apps, etc... Right now, a big worry is him even getting time off to go interview.
How can I tell if a company is lying about time off, etc... where do I look?
I am not picky about where I live, I just would like to have a husband once in a while.

You don't mention college so I assume he is lacking there. Has he had any luck with corporate flying? This seems to be a rapidly expanding arm of the industry. As far as working conditions, he has to be willing to put his foot down and insist on the conditions promised. I know, easier said than done. I will wait to read some other responses and get back with more later.
Good luck and thanks for sticking by him.

Sorry, he does have a AA in Business Management.

Been there done that with his current employer on keeping promises, was pretty much told that if you don't deal with it your fired. Kinda hard to not just shut up when you have a family to support.

just got of the phone with hubby (at work), he said where he lacks is PIC turbine time.

You have a couple of options but I'd have to know more about what you guy's are looking for as a next move to be of any help. Send me a pm, I might be able to help.

Sybil,
I have a suggestion for your husband. Ameriflight is a part 135 cargo operators that hires direct to capt for single pilot twin turbine aircraft. They have many bases, mostly on the west coast. Check out "Part 135" for posts on Ameriflight. I have a friend who just started there, lot less time than your husband and being checked out in Beach 99 as single pilot capt. Believe pay is 24K next move up in AC pays about 42K, should come quickly. Not much but it is PIC turbine. Also where ever he goes he needs to network and keep in touch, with his new acquaintances, suggest he have business cards made up anytime he changes jobs. Good luck.

Default Can you afford a regional job?

With 3 kids, a regional job might be tough, but if you can afford 20-25k the first year, most make around 30+ year 2. If you live in domicile life isn't too bad. QOL will at least go up for you. Expect 10-14 days off. Sitting reserve asking for last out probably quite a bit more.
With 1000ME, he can apply at Continental, but an internal recomendation is almost a must have to get his resume out of the big pile and into the short pile.

Check out all the Major-National-LCC's on the main page

If there is a union on property you don't have to worry about employer reneging on promises - even if there isn't (like skywest) you probably don't have to worry about it at a larger company.

Luck!
