Staffing really good? I know of a captain that upgraded recently and has been flying more as an FO than as a captain.

Actually, I thought I was the half empty type. I was being sarcastic because I am trying to plan on how to not get jr manned on reserve at this damn place.
Yeah I am one of them I have been on reserve for over a year and a half, and I always dread the "you have a 4 day in the right seat".

2 cents from an ex-laker:
I went to Lakes in 99. Background: Was 24 years old, out of college 1 year while working as a full time CFI. Back then, 99, the only people that would "look" at a guy with 1000 total and 100 multi were: Lakes, Mesaba, and Co-Ex (IF you paid for your own training).
I was turned down at Mesaba and unwilling to even consider a Co-Ex interview (due to the PFT they had in place for people with less than 1200 total / 200 multi).
Anyway, was sick and tired of C152 time and went to Lakes. Was on line 6 months, flew 500 SIC multi turbine, and quit for SkyWest.
Back then, the whole company was outstation based. In the 6 months I was there, I was based in Spencer, Springfield, Worland, and Liberal. I "chose" each of these, as there were 23 crew bases at the time and each month or so I was moved "up" one on my standing bid list. However, every single thing I owned fit in the trunk of my Mitsu Eclipse, including my air mattress, and moving (IE, driving) from one crew house to the next crew house was actually fun (we stayed in crew houses back then).
Did it for 6 months, and decided that was enough and quit for SkyWest (which was arguable not a whole lot better for the 4 years I worked there) after getting the 500 SIC turbine.
Bottom line, back in 1999 (and admittedly unknown to me know), Lakes could be a strangle "fun" and definitely interesting place to log some turbine time for a single, unattached dude with NO bills/loans/mortgage payments.
In the end, it worked for me. Went to: Lakes, SkyWest, ATA, Continental, and finally FedEx in relatively short time span. But as a caution, be mentally prepared to just say phuck it and punch out from a place like Lakes in a heartbeat. I was not even 3 flights off IOE when I was in near shouting matches with Tosty over refusing to be junior manned etc. Not sure how enforceable their training contract is, but I know for certain I could NOT have done 15 months there. 6 months was fine, but that was it for me....
