Great Lakes Hiring?
#131
Could some of you guys who "can't believe what you're reading" share some insight as to why you feel that way? It seems that most of us posting here are just on the cusp of beginning our aviation careers and we're looking for some direction from those who have gone before. For example, if you went to Lakes, share your experience. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

I would say that is a good idea considering we are hiring guys with 1000 and 100. Should be hiring into late next year. Stick it out, I'm sure you would be much happier at Eagle and DFW is a very easy base to get right now if you are on the ATR or EMB.

I would hope LGA CRJ since I live in North NJ, but I would deal with any commute and take LGA when I could.

the baron's a good airplane and you'll learn alot.
having single pilot, night ifr experience on your resume' never hurts......
chances are you may have a rough time getting on at eagle given the state of the industry. there are a ton of well-qualified and experienced pilots on the street right now.

I have 400TT I wouldn't take Lakes over anything. I'd rather never fly again then fly for Lakes on their best day. No offense to the guys who do, but I'm sorry I'm worth more than the crappy pay and schedule. I'm just beginning my career also, but time with family and friends wins everyday over a "job" if you can call Lakes that. I've mulled the place over left and right and eventually my friend who's a captain there finally put it in my head. She's never ever home. Better?
After reading over the red highlighted areas I don't need to say much. I wouldn't single out lakes as some dump when you really don't have a clue as to what you're talking about. EVERY regional is the same. Horrendous pay, bad schedules, never be home for holidays/family events or weekends. It's just the nature of the beast. My best advice is find a new career/job. If you think that another regional will be better than the other then you clearly aren't deeply vested in aviation and still have a chance to do something else. good luck

I have been flying jumpers i have no XC time at all, not even point to point, I need to go 121, 135 is not at all even a dream of an option right now.
fly another 75-100 hrs and apply at airnet (or some place like it). they're hiring should be starting again soon, if it hasn't already.

I want what your smoking, ya somewhere like Eagle starting at 26ish an hour, making 40k in 3-4 years, long legs in an RJ ie ORD-SLC, and bases all over the USA, oh ya and paid training. Compared to lakes, 15kish starting, make 30k when you upgrade could be 3 or more years, flying 1900s that are falling apart, in the middle of no where America, hoping the EAS gets renewed and someone else doesnt take that bid from you. Oh ya unpaid training in a crumhole in the middle of no where WY. Yep sounds like they are exactly the same.

Of course that number is only realistic if you lived in base and work your butt off.
