Probably gonna be on reserve for a while, I wouldn't commute. I'm not a commuter, but fly with a lot who commute on reserve. Let's say life ain't that grand. If you want to salvage any sort of time off after trips, and days off, I'd pack the uhaul.

My point? Yes lavMan is correct that living in base can take a LOT and I mean a lot of stress off your back and add a significant amount of lifestyle. However...
...Be VERY careful when packing the "uhaul" and moving to your base as we ALL are subject to being displaced (base transfer) at any month. There is nothing that stops Eagle from having you in DFW in January. ORD in February. LGA in March. DFW in April. JFK in May and June. and so on...
Try to convince your landlord to put something in the contract to protect you and allow you to not be liable for a job transfer with the apartment contract. Have I tried that yet? No. But I will try it. It will probably only slide in they're having an issue with finding a tenant.
I commute Denver to LGA now and it sucks, but will not [WILL NOT] sign for a piece of crap 1bedroom apartment in Queens for $1000/mo.
Just be careful...
