American Eagle to hire
#2411
There likely isn't going to be an actual shortage of qualified pilots, at least not for quite some time (student pilot numbers are definitely decreasing). It's a matter of who is willing to fly for regional wages. Flight time also isn't the only determining factor in who is a good candidate. I know a lot of guys who have seen both good and bad out of the lower time guys at the airlines. There are pilots who got hired back during the boom that probably weren't highly qualified, but they got through. Then there are the captains who say they've flown with low-time guys who they would much rather fly with than some high time guys.
It just depends. The days of getting hired with less than 500TT are over, but why not give the guys at 800 who are capable a chance? If the pilots with much more experience and time want the jobs, they likely will get the interview. Lowering the mins like Eagle, AWAC, etc creates a bigger pool with more options to be weighed.

There are thousands of out of work pilots, and people with better than 800/100, but not many of them are willing to work for $25/hr at a regional and be based halfway across the country.
If I was furloughed today I couldnt afford to go back to the bottom of a Regional seniority list making 25k and being based across the country. I have invested too much and gotten too little of a return on that investment. It would be time to cut my losses and get a job outside the industry.

I applied about two week ago on airline apps...
How long after you guys applied did it take to get a call back?
I got 940 TT with 280 Multi and 121 experience...
The flight hours for airline apps is a pain in the butt. My total PIC time is off by like 20 because of the way they ask to input PIC time, that being time basically solo. I couldnt find the discrepancy anywhere in my log book. Very confusing... Is this something, if i did get the call, that they would care about in the interview?

I got interviewed on Jan 24, 2011 with 930TT AND 108ME, CFI, CFII, MEI, Recommendation Letter, ERAU Bridge Program, and only part 91 experience and got a Pre-Offer of employment.
When I applied through AirlineApps, it took Eagle three days to send me an e-mail to schedule the interview. As far as the PIC time goes I had the same problem. My AirlineApps PIC time was around 50hrs less than my logbook. The best advice I can give is to make sure you e-mail Vicky Austin 2 weeks prior to the interview regarding any discrepancies to make sure everything goes smooth on the interview.
Good luck to all!
