One other question:

my instrument currency expires Jan 31st (6 month currency, not 12 month). i was planning on doing some flying this weekend to keep myself instrument current, but if i do that my logbook hours and airlineapps hours won't match. The gouges say that they print your airlineapps application the day you call for the interview which was last week. I'm fairly certain that being instrument current is important for the interview, so should i just fly it and explain to the on the day of the interview that i flew recently to keep instrument current?

They give you an application supplement to include your times since the airlineapps application. I would, however, make a notation in your logbook to point out the spot in your logbook when you filled out the airlineapps application. I interviewed last week, and had some more flight instruction and sim time since I applied, and I was not even asked about my logbook. Just makes sure your times add up correctly and you have checkrides tabbed. In short, absolutely go flying to keep yourself current!

As far as your earlier question: I was not asked this, but to the best of my knowledge the answer would be when you make the initial decision to go to an alternate. You base the decision on the weather and likelihood of getting in since the regs require that you only carry enough fuel to get to your intended destination and then the furthest alternate and thereafter for 45 mins. As you can imagine, that may not leave you enough fuel to go to both alternates .

I wouldn't sweat the couple hours...just update your airlineapps when you're done.

Good luck! How long after they sent the "review in 2 days" email until they contacted you for an interview?

They understand that you keep flying because it's our job. It's ok if you have more flight time in your grid that in airline apps.

When do you make the in-flight decision to utilize the second alternate? And what is the fuel requirement based on, the first or second alternate?

thanks
You make that decision based off the the current or forcast WX conditions of your alternate. If you pull up the ATIS, or get a report from dispatch, that your alternate is below mins, there is your decision point.

Sometimes your filed alternate isn't a true or good alternate. Alternates are given for legality versus being legit. Therefore it's up to the flight crew and dispatch to agree upon a resonable alternate.

DAL is often an alternate for DFW. The airports are about 12 miles from one another. If the wx takes a dump at DFW, 99.9% of the time, you're not gonna get into DAL. Crew and dispatch must agree upon a different alternate.

You fuel requirement is based off of the definition of IFR fuel requirements....fly to the MOST DISTANT alternate and there after for 45 mins.
