I do not at all agree with this practice but I do want to make one point, I had to work a non flying job for 3 months to get the flying job I have, and I had to get 25 hours in type for the insurance, which cost me like 2 grand...so I know its very different, but how different is it really?

not really, our owner has 2 dropzones about 90 miles apart, and in the spring the plane was being ferried alot, so I would get right seat time free, but when I was still coming up short of the 25 hours for the insurance, the DZO let me rent the plane 60 hr dry tach, but the other pilot did not charge me anything for his time,he also used the last 5 hours of the 25 to teach me how to fly jumpers
