Banner towing PFT
#12
If anyone is interested in towing for a company that doesn't suck PM me and I'll tell you about my current employer. They treat us great, like real humans, and I make 43/hr draggin rags. They are based in Hollywood, FL. I leave for Las Vegas on a company paid airline ticket on Wednesday and I'll be flying over the UNLV game and other things. Oh and I didn't have to pay a dime for my training.

He's signifying that IF you didn't win you would have to pay 2600 to learn to tow. He's using that as a ploy, which raises the BS flag in my book.

Agreed! This practice probably has its' flaws but I don't think it fits the description of PFT and I'd like for this not to get lost in the translation. Sounds like this operator is trying to kill two birds with one stone. I might be a gift to aviation , but I can sell anything to anybody

Anyone would be better off getting another instructor certificate or tailwheel time or something. Maybe if there was a time contract and really good pay it would be worth it. Florida is also a 'right to work' state... meaning that he could take $2600 from you (which is not tailwheel) let you work for a day... and then fire you... all the while be perfectly legal.

It may not be PFT per se.... but it is Flim Flam, Bamboozolment, whatever else you want to call it. The company is just up the road... everyone around here knows the company... not a good reputation. The $2600 for "training" is a little absurd - if a lot of people do the "training" the guy isn't going to just go buy more airplanes so everyone can have a job... some people will be part-part-time. From what I've heard, the class actually costs money... that money can be earned back by 'commission' sales. In order to be in the class I pretty sure you actually have to register for the training, paying $2600. Those that sell the most may be reimbursed for that amount.

I once paid for training in a sales job many, many moons ago.
Too bad I didn't see it as the scam it was before I lost the $100 - but at least I didn't get caught up any deeper in the scam either. Live and learn in this case.

I'm certainly not saying it isn't a scam - but I am saying let's be careful not to dilute (as Hog said) the true meaning of PFT.

Guess it never really goes away - just takes different forms from time to time.

You are right. It's funny...pay for sales training... just the other day some guy in Wal-Mart asked me a stupid question... and then asked me if I wanted a job... after a few more questions... turns out you have to pay a registration fee of $99, which includes a 'starter kit' and then you pay $200 to get trained to sell insurance and your pay is based on how many people you recruit and commission.
Guess it never really goes away - just takes different forms from time to time.

Anyways - back on subject.....it sounds like this M.O. is well known in the area. Reputation goes a long way. You guys/gals down in the FL area let us know if you hear anything else about the situation.
