Post FAA Flight Check

http://jobsearch.usajobs.gov/getjob....&TabNum=3&rc=2

We have a pilot slot in ANC! This is a great way to get your foot in the door. We will have alot more slots opening up due to retirements. FLTCHK has bases in ACY,BTL,ATL,SMF,OKC.
A new hire will start in the BE-300 and we have LR60's and CL601,4,5's
Like I said if want to get your foot in the door, you will have to move to ANC.(Company Paid)
I made the jump back in Oct. and I love every second of it. I found out about this job on this site and I hope to pay it forward to someone else.
Good Luck!!!!

Default GS-Question

Saw this and considered applying, but pay was low compared to other Flight Check posts they've had. Two questions:

1. Is GS-Level you get (if hired) influenced by military-rank held? IE, if you were a senior mil officer, do you go up a notch or two?

2. Is there a mandatory retirement age?

I also didn't think I had much of a shot as I assumed it would require AK-Bush time, of which I have none.

Interested as to your insights.

For the link try Usajobs.gov and type in 2181 for a series number and that should work.

As far as the pay Im pretty sure having mil time will get you a either a GS12 or 13. but don't hold me to that. Now the job is posted under a core comp pay scale which is a new scale for new hires. That would be a question for HR.

Our PIC are all GS14. I started as a GS-11 and when I got signed off as an SIC I became a GS-12. In about two years I should be a 14. I got hired with no mil time.

No bush time is required. This job just requires that you can fly without thinking. Its more technical if anything.

There is no retirement age. We got a few guys over 65+. As long as you can keep a first class than your golden.

Like I said I left the airlines last year and never looked back. Just don't apply if this is a job that you want just for the mean time.Because its not gonna work out. This is a low turn over job.
Hope I answered your questions.
Good luck

I've applied for this job the last two times it opened up and have never made it past the initial application screening down in OKC.

Speaking with the heads of the Flight Check depts. in OKC and SMF, I was left with the impression it was due to no prior MIL experience to score my app higher with the "veteran's preference."

One guy said after several conversations, "You're exactly the kind of guy we'd love to have on board, but to be honest I haven't interviewed a civilian in over ten years since their applications are never forwarded to me."

Default Thanks

mjb:

Thanks for the info. No, I'm not looking for a temp-job. I would rather get out of the tumultuous airline industry. But I've been flying for 33 years, so I'm only going to change tracks if it makes monetary sense. I'd like to do this for at least 10-15 years, and it sounds like I could.

Incidentally, I don't get mil-preference. They cut-out guys that are Major or higher. That stinks (for me).

Yes, I have USA jobs saved as a favorite and I know the job-code . Other jobs in the lower-48 have shown a pay range where bottom-scale is higher than what is currently showing as top for Alaska. That could be a problem---or a typo.

I'm interested....trying to control a 5-alarm fire here with a sick relative, but will try to apply tomorrow (with the horrible and confusing FAA forms...)

I'm interested. But is it seriously improbably without prior federal service? I live in AK

Thanks for the posting. I'm trying to convince my wife that AK would be an exciting place to live. Is the travel really 50% of the time?
