Please do not let these folks get away with this.

Bosses prefer 2 pilots but don't want to PAY for the SIC. This is a great opportunity for a guy like me who's out of work with 2 kids to feed.

Thanks guys!

Not sure if this link will work but they are looking for a Citation Bravo SIC to fly for free (per the ad).

All you get out of it is time in a Citation where the regulations or type do not require an SIC.

But hey they will buy you lunch

Actually since it is part 91 and they don't actually need an SIC is it really that bad? Yes, it would not make sense to take that job if you need the salary, but since no SIC is required and they are not asking you to pay anything, AND they pay for all travel expenses it means you are just flying to gain experience right? It also said if they like you it could lead to a full time position in the future, so that sort of sounds like an extended interview. Maybe I'm missing something, but it really doesn't sound like that bad of a deal for someone who can afford to spend the time once in a while doing a job like that. Though maybe I can see your point in the phrase "Our bosses prefer two pilots for some trips." But unless an SIC is actually required it doesn't really seem all that underhanded.

I think it's more the fact that it was an advertisment on a JOB board. Why advertise when you could walk into any flight school and get a body to fill the seat?

It still sets a bad example for any employer to want a co-pilot/body and not pay them. But as long as people want to give up a paying job for "jet" time more power to them. I just hate hearing people complain about their pay when we have positions like this that get filled in no time flat.

Just my $.02

Time as a non-required "gear puller" is highly suspect in a logbook. Most people interpret it as NOT time that can be logged, since you are not a required crew member.

well, you could log time under part 91 though if you were the pilot flying couldn't you, if the PIC is also a MEI, or an ATP? I'm not too sure how this op would be run but I agree with E ThePilot though in the fact that this position didn't even have to make it onto a job board since they could have found somebody to sit in that seat after walking into the first flight school they tried.

I'm so tired of people trying to justify working for free by saying it's experience. Every job you ever get will give you experience. That's why they call them JOBS.

As far as I know you can log whatever you want so long as you do not try to use it towards currency, a license or rating. Leave it up to future prospective employers to decide if the time has value or not.

That's not a job it's a "ride along". Maybe they should advertise it on a ride along website!!
We all need to say NO to this kind of crap.
I met a guy the other day who works for one of the big simulator training outfits and he said the increase in single pilot citation training was amazing.
More and more citation operators out there are trying to cut costs by operating some of the eligible citations with only one pilot.
We need to say NO to this also.
We have to think seriously about improving things in this industry, it will take an effort from all of us.
