The FAA wants you.

I know the age limit is 31. They no longer require any formal training in ATC before being hired. If you do get hired they put you through a 3 month crash course in Oklahoma City. Then you work with another controller while you learn the ropes. While in training you make around 40K.

Of note, there are two parts to the listings: those that are for current FAA employees, and then for guys off the street.
The age limit is due to mandatory retirement for controllers at 55. Wonder how long that will last?

Yeah, the starting ATC salaries really suck. This is a result of the "new contract" being shoved down the throats of the controller workforce. Gone are the days of the "big money" facilities. It will take quite a long time to work up to the busier facilites, and even then, there are caps on what you can earn. Figure around $80,000 top pay at one of the top level facilites, compared to $140,000+ before the new work rules. I just retired after 27 years and got out at just the right time. It's a good, solid secure job, but unfortunately, you can make more $ driving a truck.
As far as the mandatory retirement age of 56 is concerned, don't look for the feds to change that any time soon. This is a federal law and the law would have to be changed or ammended.
