I asked a flight check pilot how to get on and he said the best way was with veteran's preference, I think you need service during an actual war for that. I think he told me it was a Monday through Friday job, Monday in the office, Tuesday through Thursday flying, Friday in the office. That would be cushy for me, but if it's now flying Monday through Friday, that would be too much.

For information - I did run into the FAA guys at the Tinker airshow. They had a Challenger parked right behind my aircraft. There was a AF LtCol giving the tour. He said that they are getting rid of all of the Lear 60s and bringing on more Challengers - 604 and 605s. He talked about the type of flying (domestic and international and a lot of time spent below 2,000') and seemed to really enjoy his job. Their instrument skills must be top notch if they are shooting 30 approaches a day! All of the other information on this thread posted by Spanky and WMUPilot was correct.

We have a FIFO in Atlanta at the airport I fly out of (KFTY) I see the King Airs with tail numbers N72 and N71 fly in and out all the time.
On most government apps(not just aviation) they ask if you want to claim veterans preference. Its five points added to your score if you served in a war. If you are disabled you get 10 veteran preference points
