I just got hired with Northern States Aviation, doing aerial imaging and mapping. I've got less than 400TT, and I also bypassed the whole instructing thing.

It can be done. But it ain't easy. CFI jobs (especially now) are a dime a dozen. But getting someone to hand over a airplane to a pilot with a wet ticket is hard to find. From my experience these type jobs are gained by knowing people.

I didn't want to instruct. But I bit the bullet and did it. Now I'm glad I did because I think I learned more than I ever would have towing banners up and down the beach and I actually enjoyed sharing my passion of flying.

Sounds a little cheesy but it's true.

You are only 50 hours away from being eligible for your commercial ticket.
Get it asap and there are at least 3 commuter airlines who will hire you, one of which will give you a five grand hiring bonus which will offset your commercial ticket....

UND's curriculum for Aviation Management goes up through Commercial Single and Multiengine Instrument. It is a part 141 course (same one used for Commercial Aviation majors) with reduced minimums so the 250 hour total time is not required as in part 61.

Holt, if I were you, I'd still at least get the CFI. If you don't instruct for UND, there are tons of other CFI jobs out there.

Im in the same situation man western sucked me dry and unfortunately I got denied for another loan to get my CFI because of credit issues so I've been working really hard for the past year to scrap up some money to do it. I looked down on CFI at first thinking it's a waste of money but now I realize it's a way better way to tune up your pilot skills then flying a stupid banner or glider around sitiing in the plane with your thumb up your butt! lol I want to get up to CF MEI that right there already is a big accomplishment and It's really gonna prepare me for a regional job plus alot of airlines prefer that you have it when you apply.

The question is how did you save up the money to get your cfi without a loan. I recently had my identity stolen and so my credit is totally screwed up (loan is out of the question). The biggest problem is that I've already had to start paying back my student loans which are crippling me. I'm probably going to have to get a part time job (if the shop continues to be this slow) even though I'm set to earn close to $40,000 as an A&P. So my question is how are you getting it done? I've worked so hard to get to this point (just got my commercial multi on Saturday) and its still so out of reach. If anyone knows some places to get hours in the BC area let me know....

My wife and I need to start making money, not spending more of it, which means I need a job. I can always get a job in management somewhere, but I really want to continue flying. My question is, are there any decent jobs out there for young pilots without their CFI? I've only got a little over 200 hours, with about 40 multiengine. Is it even possible to get a job as a pilot with my limited flight experience? If you've got any ideas or advice, please let me know. Thanks.

Starting salray isn't bad for someone right out of College, there are plenty of UND ppl there (too many if you ask me!). You can get type rated in the fleet you work for, test and ferry flying down the road, and I just started new hire class...

Good Luck, and don't be afraid to try something out of the box...

Come instruct at Western Michigan University, they are desperate for instructors

I taught here and it isnt so bad, good pay. You start off at $17/hr and after you bill 200 hours you get a raise to $23/hr
