To make a long story short, I am short on PIC requirements (1000 ME Turbine)for all the ailrines we ALL want to be flying for. (UPS, FedEx, SWA and JB) I have 5000TT, about 3500 on A320's. Any advice?

You may consider downgrading on equipment and taking a position in a turboprop with a communter with a quick upgrade. definatly don't go to a regional with rjs the ugrade time will be forever. Or a corporate gig flying a small jet or turboprop. I know a lot of people that took FO jobs early in their career and never upgraded- so now situations like comair- their kinda in the same boat. a lot of total time with minimal PIC.

Who are you currently flyin for? the plane in the pic looks like Air Jamaica?
How much longer is your ugrade gonna take?

Hey Ian
Its been a while since I have seen you but I hope all is going well hows Roger & Trudy, Its no secret whats happening at AJ. If you are looking up here in the states then go Continental or Alaska that is my suggestion. The mins are a bit more flexible and they are both financially stable.

I know the commuting is a problem, but if you're willing to work overseas, they may hire you as a captain. Most say they want 500 PIC in type, but due to growth in the Middle East and Asia.. some would jump all over your 3500 in type as a direct hire captain. Some of the Indian companies especially.

I don't know about UPS, FedEx, or JB, and maybe I'm splitting hairs, but I don't see on the SWA min's page where it states you NEED 1000 PIC ME Turbine. Their minimum IS 1000 PIC Turbine, but it doesn't specify ME. This is where I'm looking...

http://www.southwest.com/careers/pilots.html

Of course, that is just a minimum and 1000 ME PIC Turbine would definitely make you much more competitive. I would think that 5000 TT and 1000 PIC Turbine time (either SE or ME) would get your foot in the door. Oh, and don't forget your 737 type!

Marine Pilot, you are correct that the requirement is Turbine and not Multi- turbine at SWA. If it was ME turbine, then it would eliminate all the F-16 guys...maybe not such a bad idea though (just kidding). Semper FI.

Also, I recently flew with a Navy rotorhead that got all his fixed wing turbine time in the mighty T-34c Radial Interceptor (the best you can ever hope for is a single engine landing).

SWAcapt, thanks for the info on the Turbine time. There were a few minutes there where I started to get nervous since all my Turbine PIC time (ALL in the mighty Turbo-Weenie!) would be for naught since it was all SE!

This Navy rotorhead you flew with doesn't happen to go by the callsign "Tex" does he? If so, please tell him I say HI next time you run into him!

Semper Fi to you also!

I don't think it's him, this guy lives in JAX and flies SH60's there on the weekends. You will want to get your multi-eng ATP though.

Any current word on whether people are getting interviews with SWA without Types but with letters of Rec. Or do you pretty much need to have both and a couple thousand turbine PIC?
