Merger is 100% getting approved.

One of two things I assume...

1. They are hashing out the fine details to reach a mutual agreement, such as giving up slots/gates on overlap routes, or

2. The gubmint is trying to figure out which way the political winds are blowing, and is afraid that a certain candidate might need to scramble to a more pro-economy position. Swing voters are going to matter a lot and they might not approve of forcing not one but two airlines into distress. Kamala will get at least some guiilt by association with the current regime. Also not sure if Dems are worried about HI, but like many states it wasn't polling nearly as far left as it usually does during Biden's month of decline (post-Biden polling results won't settle out for another week or two).

My guess is option 1.

That would be my guess too but can't totally rule out at politics at the moment. I don't think harris is ever going to get to a sufficiently commanding lead in the polls that they can just disregard all the economy/border voters and go hard-over progressive.

Either way probably bodes well for those hoping for the merger to go through, and the markets seem to agree.

Lol, if they were going to block they would just do it. The extension likely means they are just finalizing details.

Since the day they took office it has been basically one big campaign to remain in power. Think about how many times since January 2021 Joe has mentioned "my predecessor" in a speech. I'll give everyone a hint since I watch this stuff religiously and don't miss a briefing if I'm around. From Joe to KJP to Peppermint Pattie, nearly every speech has been a talking point about "my predessor" or the "prior administration". No sustance on current policies working.

Whoever is running the Country will do whats best to remain in power. If that involves denying this takeover, so be it. If it involves letting the State of Hawaii blocking it, that's what will happen. I'll all but guarantee the DOJ has talked with the State of Hawaii AG about what the course of action should be to keep Harris in good standing.

I sure do miss a good Tweet these days.

I think the HI local pols priority is not keeping Harris in DC but rather keeping HAL out of bankruptcy since a lot of jobs could then shift to Dallas.

At this point, a few months from Nov, it looks like the critical swing voters care more about economic policy than progressive ideals. There's a good chance that NK will file before the election. That combined with attempting to block the AS merger and thereby placing HAL in financial jeopardy is not going to be a good look. Who do they care more about at this point, the bernie boy base or middle America swing voters? It's the later, harris has already done a complete 180 on most of her major policy positions from 2020.

Out of curiosity, why Dallas?
