And one last thing before I take a break from all this and enjoy my vacation. I don't know the angry guy on here, and I don't know about a lot of the stuff he's saying. I do know that a lot of people think we dropped the ball with our contract. More than 1/3 voted no, and a lot of the peope I know who voted yes have buyers remorse. It does seem a bit crazy that we're going into negotiations again for the JCBA, and didn't make a single adjustment to the team. This scares me a little.

The last contract was brought to us at the most profitable time in the company history. And it still took 3 years. And still lacked and had to many give backs.
I hope that union guy had fun getting some downtime on union days, have you never heard of a COMP day? These guys giving up their free time to do OUR work every single day and get one, maybe two days off as compensation.

We should have totally gotten way more and given up less with a company bleeding money. 95 years of history and mixed success and its being sold/bought now. Wonder why. Think you could have gotten more? On the same timeline? Think previous management wouldn't still have us negoatiating for something less?

So the only ones allowed to have any opinions of what the union does is other union volunteers or those who lost against them? How dare anyone ask for accountability of those who represent them.

Dude, WTF are you on about? Are you working for the same Hawaiian Airlines as the rest of us? First you talk about sensorship on the HA Facebook group which doesn't exist, then you proceed to accuse the MEC of being corrupt ... I know all 4 of those guys personally and they are honorable hard working servants... if you think you can do better, tell us who you are and run for block rep next time.
- are you ok with ALPA pay on weekends and Holidays?
- are you ok with the MEC Chair receiving 90 hrs a month without ever being in Hawaii?
- are you ok with the lead negotiator receiving 90 hrs a month, never in Hawaii, and living in Maine?
- are you ok with a negotiating committee member out for two years on ALPA pay without using sick leave?
- are you ok with the Vice Chair snowboarding while on ALPA pay and missing a TA road show?
- are you ok with the MEC buying a 50k van and not getting approval from the pilot group?
- are you ok with the MEC starting a LEC to avoid a pilot vote?

Normally I only read these threads to keep a pulse on what pilots are saying and thinking. This thread has me curious about a lot of things. I was going to let it go, but I wouldn’t be being true to myself If I did not reply to this. I see a lot of comments regarding the Union leadership, previous chairs versus current chairs and some other things that seem to be on people’s minds.
Just so you know, this is Sean Kimura, HAL MEC Block 3 rep. I will start by saying while I may not agree with the viewpoints I have read on here; I do respect that you have them and that you feel that way. I have several times since being elected approx. a year and a half ago offered to sit down with anyone who had any issues, including concerns with leadership to discuss anything they wanted to. So again, I am offering to sit down with you and discuss any issues you may have. If you don’t want to speak with me, I’m sure any of the MEC will be willing to sit down with you. I understand that venting on a forum sometimes helps, but if you really want to create change, I welcome you to be a part of it. I look forward to hearing from any of the HAL pilots on here. Sorry I must limit this to HAL pilots only. =)

- Why is your FLICA blocked?
- Why can't you post the Van usage log on Voggers or a communication memo?
- Was it your idea for the Van?

Yes. This is an airline. We don't do M-F unless we are super senior. Stuff happens when it happens.
- are you ok with the MEC Chair receiving 90 hrs a month without ever being in Hawaii?
I've flown a bunch of flights that he's been on going to and from Hawaii in the past 12 months, so I don't think that's correct. As far as 90 hours a month go... sure I'm ok with that as long as he's getting stuff done. Most places have the entire MEC plus a bunch of committee chairs on full time ALPA work. Welcome to the big leagues, son.
- are you ok with the lead negotiator receiving 90 hrs a month, never in Hawaii, and living in Maine?
Just based on PUB events and lounge sits and what not, I'd say he's in Hawaii pretty often. Same as above for 90 hours a month. Who cares as long as he's doing stuff. And from how much you were *****ing about the number of LOAs that we've had, I'd guess you'd agree he's doing negotiating.
- are you ok with a negotiating committee member out for two years on ALPA pay without using sick leave?
I'm pretty sure he used sick leave. But even if not... most of that was during the contract and ratification process. So obviously he was doing work. I don't see the issue.
- are you ok with the Vice Chair snowboarding while on ALPA pay and missing a TA road show?
If he was on ALPA days over a road show he probably should have been at the road show. But if that's your only beef with him, it seems pretty minor.
- are you ok with the MEC buying a 50k van and not getting approval from the pilot group?
Yep. We elect MECs to do stuff for us. They did stuff. Did you expect them to have a poll to see what color car you wanted them to buy or something? Also, I hate to tell you, but 50k is probably a pretty good deal considering the amount that would get charged back for rental cars over the lifetime of the van. I'd guess it's saving us money.
- are you ok with the MEC starting a LEC to avoid a pilot vote?
I'm not sure what you are talking about here.

At a previous gig, we had a common scheduling system with the flight attendents, and I flew with a guy who blocked his schedule because he didn't want his FA wife to know how much he flew and how much money he made in a given month.

And that is precisely why the MEC needs to block their schedule?
