Dude, WTF are you on about? Are you working for the same Hawaiian Airlines as the rest of us? First you talk about sensorship on the HA Facebook group which doesn't exist, then you proceed to accuse the MEC of being corrupt ... I know all 4 of those guys personally and they are honorable hard working servants... if you think you can do better, tell us who you are and run for block rep next time.

Normally I only read these threads to keep a pulse on what pilots are saying and thinking. This thread has me curious about a lot of things. I was going to let it go, but I wouldn’t be being true to myself If I did not reply to this. I see a lot of comments regarding the Union leadership, previous chairs versus current chairs and some other things that seem to be on people’s minds.
Just so you know, this is Sean Kimura, HAL MEC Block 3 rep. I will start by saying while I may not agree with the viewpoints I have read on here; I do respect that you have them and that you feel that way. I have several times since being elected approx. a year and a half ago offered to sit down with anyone who had any issues, including concerns with leadership to discuss anything they wanted to. So again, I am offering to sit down with you and discuss any issues you may have. If you don’t want to speak with me, I’m sure any of the MEC will be willing to sit down with you. I understand that venting on a forum sometimes helps, but if you really want to create change, I welcome you to be a part of it. I look forward to hearing from any of the HAL pilots on here. Sorry I must limit this to HAL pilots only. =)

I don't get it... the MEC chair and vice chair probably hate me because I am always emailing them to ask what's up or why they signed another LOA or something. And they've answered every time. I don't always like their answer, but at least they did answer. Are they not answering you when you ask them questions? This is the 7th MEC I've had, and as far as I can tell it's the 2nd or 3rd most transparent. How is your experience so different?

How about we move "forward" while having accountability and transparency. We can start very small too; why would anyone in the union block their schedules if there's nothing to hide? Why do they even let rumors gain traction? I know, I know, I should just wait for the DART to get back to me, but again, why is it even getting to this point?

A bit melodramatic. Complaining on an anonymous weboard isn't going to rip the group apart, just like voicing concerns about the leadership isn't going ruin our chances for a decent JCBA. If the MEC wants to address our concerns, they'll start spending more time in the crew center and less time on the slopes.

That is literally the definition of transparency. Or are you wanting them to just tell you everything they did without having to ask first? Or do you want them to ask you first for your opinion every time before they do anything? I'm not getting what you are saying here.

I think that there are 2 mindsets elected officials have. 1. We're elected and we will do what we feel is best for the group, and answer their emails and concerns after the fact. or 2. We're elected, and we're going to do our best to make sure that the decisions we make represent the whole group. To do that we need to interact with the group often, and we need to give them as much info as possible about the things we're discussing before we make a decision. We will hold ourselves accountable when we make mistakes, and most importantly, we won't hide anything (including our schedules or pay), because we want to show that there isn't anything to hide. Most people start off as a 2, and slowly morph into a 1. Lifelong public officials aren't ususally in it to serve the public. This is usually why the public loves the idea of term limits, but the politicians hate them.

And one last thing before I take a break from all this and enjoy my vacation. I don't know the angry guy on here, and I don't know about a lot of the stuff he's saying. I do know that a lot of people think we dropped the ball with our contract. More than 1/3 voted no, and a lot of the peope I know who voted yes have buyers remorse. It does seem a bit crazy that we're going into negotiations again for the JCBA, and didn't make a single adjustment to the team. This scares me a little.
