Combining with Alaska Airlines for a Stronger
#251
I feel your pain! Highly doubt any furloughs however we will be flying a 737 somewhere, top 10% will enjoy HNL flying if it remains. All Airbus aircraft will be gone, Amazon will be dumped, it is a low earner as stated by HA CEO, which leaves us to the current AS route and a few WB 787's.
We need to focus on a better contract with the new combined airline. The nightmare that replays in my mind is we have the same group working on our new merged contract.
No Furloughs and in Unity...

How many would you guess will be left in HNL when the dust settles?

wasn’t the goal of Alaska to make Hnl the 2nd hub in terms of size? So how many pilots does sfo/lax/anc have? Seems like if it’s bigger as far as planes pilots etc then it’s probably fine.

. Also said that they plan to keep and grow the union base in HNL, check is in the mail though, I suspect this is to appease the Hawaii state government to not put up roadblocks to the merger, the only way we can protect it is through JCBA language if that is allowed. I would think in the ALPA merger priority of CAREER EXPECTATIONS that most HA pilots who were hired expected to be HNL based as a career expectation and the opportunity to have an option to fly WB or fly interisland as well so I think language could and should be added that meets ALPA merger guidelines not only for metal but for domicile. I do not trust what Ben says at all, I think he is pandering to regulators to get the merger though and his board at the moment and trying to keep the masses producing without interupption.

HAL pilots can, should, and presumably will get WB fences. My recollection is that domicile fences are not the norm but I'd be happy to fence domiciles on both sides of the water, if that can be done.
I don't think AS pilots should get a widebody windfall at the expense of HA pilots, or be able to bid HNL at the expense of HA pilots.
I also don't think HA mainland commuters should get a west coast domicile windfall at the expense of AS pilots.
In both cases, career expectations.
But as you say, I wouldn't bank on much that's not in writing. With that said, I do think AS managers sincerely intend to retain and grow the long-haul business. What the future actually holds, and how well that works out for them, is TBD.
