The mail in Alaska is subsidized but for the consumers, not the air carriers. The consumers pay a lower rate for service but get higher class of service as most of the mail is transported by air. The air carriers get the rate for hauling the mail by air just as any air carrier would.

EAS on the other hand pays the air carrier a subsidy to maintain a level/frequency of service at a fixed price for the consumer that otherwise wouldn’t sustain it.

Is the mail subsidized? Yes. Does it matter to the air carrier? No, it matters to the consumer. EAS matters to both the consumer and air carrier.

There are no subsidies provided to Alaska Airlines for the places I listed.

Why are pilots fighting over business decisions they have zero control over? This is right up there with, "My dad could beat your dad up."

Good points. This morning on the news air travel complaints increased 68% from 2022. The bad news is Hawaiian was number 3 with the most complaints. This is all part of the unprofitable operation caused by our poor management.

It most definitely matters to air carriers. They make a lot of money hauling the mail. Ace, NAC, AS, Everett’s, etc, all fly freighters full of mail to those communities. My point is that while the pax tickets aren’t directly subsidized, service to those places is in the larger picture.

Pilots: I sure do love these 5-day Aucklands

Also Pilots: Our management needs to do its job and stop making boneheaded decisions.

HA Management: Sea gliders, because safety first :-)

I suspect most of Alaska's woke overtures are just calculated virtual signalling for the customer base in their hubs, which are all a very dark shade of blue.

Personally, I'd love to see the State of Hawaii attempt to build seaports for the gliders. The rail and 08L construction is getting old. We need a fresh sh!tshow to laugh at.

Lived in a lot of places in my lifetime. HI is by far the most ridiculuous place I've been.
