They are on a PR campaign to not have the natives ruin the aquisition but once they get control, management will do what it wants without thought of the local labor.

Also, the big difference is that all of the state of AK flying is EAS or government subsidised. That is what really makes it profitable. Mark my words, AS will seek money from the state of HI to continue routes or service and threaten/cease them if not.

You guys joke about HI being a socialist state, but Alaska is the biggest one in the country. Everyone is on the government dole, including the airline.
That all could be. Our management said SWA doesn’t fly unprofitable routes and they have yields lower than us. So maybe Alaska can make it work or join the blood bath for the same justification SWA does it (ego?). I’m resigned to it all, just hoping to enjoy my life for a few years.

Are you that clueless on how the company benefits from being the only game in town? It's nothing to be ashamed about, but dont think there's a non subsidy reason DL/AA/UA/WN doesnt come up and do that flying.

So it’s a monopoly or an EAS?

It sucks but HNL will shrink, obviously there is a significant amount that is unprofitable in the current HA operation, especially when every other airline has made boatloads of cash. The only bright side is that the mainland commuters will be able to shorten their commute. I wish it wasnt the case.

A monopoly because of EAS. It wouldnt be possible (read profitable) without government subsidies.

There's a reason Alaskas competitors in the state fly Caravans and Dash 8s, that's what a real free market would sustain.

Hauling the mail in the belly is subsidized.

All airlines hail mail. He said:

I would like to know what those subsidies are? EAS is limited to ADK, CDV, YAK, WRG and PSG. What government subsidies cover the other places Alaska flies?

So how about those subsidies? It would be fair to say you were just spewing BS too.

And I answered your question. I’ve seen a lot of Amazon packages and triple mailers hauled to rural communities. I know there is a misconception that all of the state’s routes are EAS, but everything off the road system is subsidized one way or another.

NAC and Everett’s fly jets to the “bush”, one of them even got a 737-800 freighter before AS did.
