Of all the made-up scenarios to get worked up about, this one just doesn't pass the muster test on so many levels. Replacing the 717 is so far down the list of priorities I wouldn't expect that to even start happening for at least 5 years. Our gates on the islands are maxed out beyond belief. Any hiccup and there's a rolling delat that seems to never recover. Why would we give up high-revenue flying to try and compete with SWA losing money inter-island before the merger is even complete. How many current AS pilots do you think are chomping at the bit to move to the islands? Logically makes 0 sense man. What would be the upside?

I didn't suggest that Alaska start flying the inter island flying we do and give that high- revenue flying. A base could open without our concern. One other thing this could do is set a foundation for a future base for whatever aircraft. They're coming whether we like it not, if approved, yes years away. So will the 737 be the replacment, who knows, it will be a replacment eventually.
Oh and also, I surf with a couple Alaska pilots, I imagine they'd love to be based here.
Ok, I'm just having fun with yes, a scenario, which adds up to nothing, just a possibility. 🤙🏻

Ok, let's start with the base, we aren't merged yet, so Alaska can do anything they want. they could open a HNL base to compliment their current flying to the mainland and connect some city pairs like KOA, LIH and OGG, which they have their own gates by the way.

southwest is doing this exact same thing. Would not recommend. It’s a theory that makes zero sense. One wild idea I had back in the day was that Alaska would buy island air and fly the Q400s interisland with Horizon. Maybe they could do something similar with the smaller island destinations, but I doubt it.

This is bad for Hawaiian and Alaska. Rooting for them collectively, not against. Hope the 737 h HNL base, assuming it happens, is 5+ years away. No need for Props or RJs thank you very much.

Alaska only wastes money on care retreats and inclusion events. They would never waste money opening a base like that. People have been waiting years for a San Diego base but if it costs $5 more than what we're doing now it's not gonna happen.

Except for MKK, LNY which may get some local support and is allowed by scope.

a) They know the merger is approved or
b) They think they have a stand-alone business case, which is exceptionally unlikely... that would be far out of their wheelhouse.

More importantly, they'll inherit the base once the merger is complete. Why would they spend the money to duplicate everything?
