The concern of the ATR not making money, well it would be a wash if the prevoius management made money, then that would have been part of the bottom line the lack of profit from those island destinations. Like SW airlines works, our prevoius management spread propoganda that SWA didnt make money here in the islands and was never full. Do you think SWA cares, no, they have their entire domestic network to compensdate, just as they have always done to attack competitors and drop prices, they gave headged fuel in the past and were able to operate at a loss on some routes to crush others.
Our two big excuses from management were 'boo hoo hoo', Japan hasn't returned and SWA.

I dont know the entireity obvioulsy but with Alaska's profit and a committment to service all of Hawaii, something could be done to operate into MKK and LNY, plus scope won't be violated if Horizon does it.
All they need, especially MKK is reliable service a couple times a day.
Crew base in the most expensive city/State in the Country for 2 maybe 3 planes? Add in ground staff, ramp space in HNL, and whatever other regulations the State can deploy. (remember it is a business unfriendly State). It would be hard to justify unless the State pays for it all, including supplying infrastructure at the airport. Back when Empire Air was doing it, there was plenty of open ramp space at the terminal. Now, not so much, unless we send the a/c over to the Mokulele ramp.

If I remember correctly, the States Covid policies triggered our contract language. Add in the financial losses suffered by the super awesome shutdown and it sure seemed HA was not too dissappointed in ending the Empre contract. Now, the State and islands of MKK and LNY, which certainly enjoyed the lockdowns, reap the benefits, or lackthereof. Yet another example of the ends not justifying the means.

The merger was just approved days ago. I doubt anyone knows anything at the moment.

The Hawaiian way would have been to let it expire, tell you that you have to reapply and interview, then panic when they realize they ran out of candidates in the pool, extend your CJO and bring you in. We're under new management now though, so not sure how they will treat it. Hoping they keep all you guys in the pool.

In the old days, AS had the "you're just lucky to be here" attitude. They had to back off on that a bit when new hire attrition was north of 50%, but it remains to be seen if they'll revert to type going forward. I'd probably apply to the big guys, and/or plan to re-interview (in SEA) if HAL is your only option.

They brought hiring under the AS roof pretty quickly in the last merger.

That sounds positive. However it does beg a few follow on questions. Will they be starting classes in 2025 for those of us in the pool? If so, what about those with expiring/expired CJOs? Or are they scrapping the whole pool, starting over, and opening a new hiring window?

You probably saw, but I'll post for those not. An email was sent today extending CJOs 180 days from October 1. No update on possible class dates. If your offer was already expired you will need to reinterview.
