There’s the little problem of gate space. There are 22 flights a day between HNL-OGG. You think there is gate space to double that?

No one knows for sure, but I don’t see the 717 going away before the end of the decade (and the DOT restriction ending).

Fleet complexity; another fleet manager, another training program, another maintenance program....

Having flow Embraers, Airbus, and looking at 737s, I'd be the first to try to get back to an Embraer operated by a mainline carrier.

We will already have that with the 717, A321, A330, 737, and 787. What’s one more ? QX already as Embraers, seems like they could spool a program up pretty quick.

MAX 7 *might* happen for strictly inter-island, ie no ETOPS other than ferry for heavy mx.

MAX 7 would not be a separate fleet, almost all overhead would be common to the 8/9. Might be worth owning some 7's to slightly improve inter-island economics relative to the 8. They'll crunch the numbers and decide based on that. 717's will conveniently last long enough for the 7 to get certified and for decisions to be made.

Yes 195 could easily replace 717, it's a wash on number of fleets, plus they already have the experience to leverage on the horizon side.

Whether it's 195 or Max 7 depends on detailed number crunching, TBD.

Max 7 has the added advantage of one less fleet type, relative to 717.

I tend to suspect one of those two, dedicated to inter-island, as opposed to flowing ETOPS MAX 9 into the inter-island role between ocean crossings. That's a big plane, plus the ETOPS overhead.

This is a very logical theory. I agree.

Last I checked, you can't get a 12 foot surfboard into the bin on a E195.

They haul a lot of weird stuff up in Alaska, they could probably figure something out.

Is this a deal breaker? Seems like it would take up all the room in the overhead for the other people in that row.
