It’s the local mentality that predominates multi generational living on an isolated island. Same people you see in the church parking lot picking up charity food items in their Benz.

Right?! The ones I knew to do that weren't Asian.

Recalled and Backpaid. Congress took too long between the first-second-third offering I guess.

True; I (we) make enough to not have to ever look at my(our) bank accts. We are also not at the bottom of a seniority list. Also old enough and have enough experience to have saved enough to ride out a worst case scenario at HA and with enough experience to not stay unemployed for long. I also don't pick up trips and don't drop much. Absolutely would never pick up during furlough. I'm not chasing dollars.

Chances are the guy lives in HI already if he flies KC135's. However, if he were to live on the mainland, and he was to ask, I'd say "it is expensive to move here, expensive to live here, and very expensive to move out of here if something were to happen to the job. Proceed with atleast a bit of caution and keep other options open, and don't count out other options. HA is probably the airline in the most precarious position right now, we are small, fly one route structure and basically serve one business plan that is not working out so well at the moment. Spirit is a large airline that although may face BK, most likely isn't going anywhere. SWA's current struggles is but a short blip.

Again, if the guy lives in HI already... who cares, get the type and ride it out for better or worse.

Then there are those on here that will say that is hate-speech. Don't weigh pro's and cons, and just chase the rainbow. We've got a really really awesome rail system to get ya to work.

Furloughed, displacement bid. While airlines like UA and DL were mitigating furloughs, HA just went right for it. That displacement bid basically was intended to retrain almost half the pilot group on different a/c. ( almost as if management over estimated Covid travel downturn.: oh wait they did! I guess they believed Don Lemon over at CNN)

Within a couple months management was pulling pilots out of displacement class and putting them back into their original a/c training. Costs to do this: tens of millions and a completely disrupted training dept. and staffing issues that lasted for quite a while.

What blew my mind during that particular phase was how they actually made so many people complete said displacement / downgrade training even when they opened the "un-displacement" bid to send people back up the list again. At least the particular VP in charge of that clownshow was allowed to "retire". I wonder if his severance package was equal to the amount of money they blew on unnesecary training during 2021?

not to mention all of the pilots that were getting bypass pay because they put the furloughed guys on the 717 list before the vacancy bid that moved them back. Add to the fact that most of the pilots that got displaced never actually got the resultant pay reduction. So many 717 pilots were getting paid 330 rates for 1-2 years without ever being trained

Thankfully, the key people responsible for this are now spending more time with their families. Unfortunately, the fact that senior management didn't see the flaw in the plan tells you all you need to know about why the rest of the operation has gone off the rails since the 2018 leadership change.

You can discuss cultural nuances, but choose your words better next time. "Asian" covers a lot of people.

While there are certainly a lot of Asians in Hawaii, it does not mean that the primary demographic of the pilots at Hawaiian.
There are so many mixed race people to say that Asian is primary is somewhat disengenuous. And really the primary make up of the pilots is more Haole than Asian.
People at the church parking lot picking up charity items in a Benz. Really? I don't watch or take note of who picks up what, but that sounds ignorant from any standpoint.
