Asking for a friend:

1) Is Hawaiian doing a big hiring frenzy like the “big 3?” If not, what is the hiring climate like now, and what is it expected to be like over the next year?

2) What does the hiring outlook look like in the scenario where the merger doesn’t happen?

Thanks in advance.

1 Seems slow and steady. They need people for pax side as current pilots leave for freight side. As freighters get delivered they will need more pilots going directly to freight. It’s definitely not a hiring frenzy but it’s not as slow as it has been in the past

2. No one knows. If merger doesn’t happen I don’t see how the airline survives. Last thing they will be looking at is hiring more pilots

Regarding number 2, pardon my ignorance, but why is that? I legitimately don’t know, and to me it seems like Hawaiian has been doing its thing just fine without a merger.

go look at the stock since covid

look at quarterly financial disclosures since covid

look at number of tourists from Japan visiting Hawaii with Yen so weak

look at 321 engine debacle

look at southwest entering market Hawaiian once had a monopoly on

The airline needs Alaska to come in and really clean house and come up with a new strategy or it will shut down. They will return 330s to the lessors, part out the 717s after delta buys them in Ch7, and United will pick up the 321s as steal just as they finish engine inspections.

Or, you know... replace the current deer-in-headlights management that only knows how to cut budgets, not run an operation, with a team that understands operational excellence. I donʻt see why new ownership is the only way to do that.

Are you listening, BOD?

prior to the merger news the number I always heard was they wanted to hire 1400 for Amazon flying and current pax flying. I think we are getting close to 1200 at the moment. They’ve steadily kept classes monthly I wouldn’t classify it as a frenzy but steady.
future hiring depends on the merger. I have no idea of the outlook and needs of Alaska flying. If Hawaiian flys more than the original 10 planes for amazon( options for 55) then the hiring gates would stay open and steady for a long time, although who knows the longevity of a 10yr deal with Amazon and whatever Alaska wants to do.

We are gonna "Aloha, Malama and smile" our way to financial success.

That seems to be the plan.

Oh, and just keep cutting routes. I've never seen thie shrink to profitability act before... It must be a good idea!

Default Interview Prep Recommendations

Hello,

I've got an interview in April. Is there an Interview prep that specializes in or is known for being the go to with regard to Hawaiian?

Also any info about the interview process would be greatly appreciated.

You can call me and I'll charge you a hundred bucks to basically tell you to just do the bare minimum. It's an applicant market. Lookup the history, throw some Hawaiian buzz words (Aloha, Malama, Kuliana, Mahalo), rehearse some Tell me a time stuff and you're golden.
