don’t worry they’re still learning that when Oakland Center goes down and there’s a ground stop on all ETOPS flights it also applies to them even though their dispatch says they are good to go. Because, you know, they are southwest. (Yes, this is something that happened and I heard the entire conversation with Lihue Ground control)
Listen, I get it, new guys screw up a radio call, a clearance, **** off ground at hnl or ask for a different crossing altitude. The one common part is that it’s not one company, I’ve heard every company get into trouble with atc, ground, radar (including Hawaiian).
I fly etops because it’s laid back and it’s less work, inter-island is fun (get low and call the field in sight) and the layovers are pretty chill. Every time I start complaining about my life I fly a domestic trip into Atlanta, Denver, Chicago… etc Running a de-ice checklist dodging thunderstorms is way worse than the island lifestyle. SWA flying to the islands is not going to change. Honestly, I hope you guys keep kicking ass with your great service. Just stop insinuating that your gods greatest gift to man by flying the b track and crossing over Bambo at 10k. 🤙

As someone who works at SWA and has multiple buddies at Hawaiian I enjoy the hate and vitriol on this forum. The part I especially like is when Hawaiian guys tell us how hard etops is.

Shhh... You'll blow our secret. We always just told you guys how hard ETOPS was to keep those super senior 717 Captains from bidding over to the 330 and knocking us all down the bid list. That worked until the 717 started doing overnights then everyone bailed anyway. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
Agreed though, ETOPS at least to the west coast is the easiest flying that I've ever done. Beats the heck out of doing 1-4 legs on the mainland, de-icing 1-3 times a day, deviating 100+ miles for a line of CBs, or seeing places like EWR, ORD, ATL or STL ever again. Now, crossing the tropical convergence zone can get dicey, and flying to Asia and dealing with ATC and customs there takes anal-retentive to a whole new level.

Perhaps someone should start a "friendly banter" thread with the SW pilots. 😉

Where were you when many RJ pilots were paid 10% of wide-body pay rates? Love your enthusiasm though. The job’s gotten easier the more you make and vise versa. In my memory anyways. If the 717 pilots don’t get a disproportional increase, I’m voting any AIP down.
