Wink Upgrade times

Hi All,

Sorry if this has been asked before, but considering the growth with Amazon and the787
What would wide body upgrade times look for someone joining later this year.

Thanks,

Dimps.

Current upgrade to 330 Captain is 5.5-6 years for both pax and freight. That could come down or go up, it’s really impossible to predict what the upgrade time in the future will be for someone joining today. Too many variables to accurately predict.

Thanks Akamai,

I appreciate your response.
But with the at least 10 330F and growth on the 787 would you predict earlier times.
Also would it be the same for the 787?

Thanks again,

Dimps

His response accounts for the initial 330Fs and 787s. Impossible to tell if upgrades go up or down right now.

What widebody upgrade time would you require to come here over United?

I would personally predict earlier times, especially for the 330F captain, as the bid out now is only for 2 planes. How much less is impossible to accurately predict due to bid behavior, seat locks, etc. It also depends on when you get hired, as we are hiring 24 a month, so someone hired last month might see 330 captain at half the current upgrade time, but someone hired the end of this year could see a much longer upgrade time. Upgrade times are a snapshot of the past, in our current case 5.5-6 years ago for the 330, which has come down from the 10 it was prior to that the latest 330F and 787 bid.

Also, the upgrade times for pilots right before 9/11 or 2008 were significantly different than those just after. Right now we are growing and upgrade times are coming down, but who knows how long that will continue for.

The 787 captain will likely remain more senior to either 330 captain position.

I would expect the freighter side to come down more than the pax side. How junior it will go is anybody’s guess. Not a lot of Hawaiian pilots currently on property want to do it. The 787 is going to be senior for the foreseeable future.

I thought the bigger bid we had was for 4x 330F aircraft? Million dollar question when the next bid for the rest of them comes out. Initial cadre start training next month I believe.

that’s correct. The initial bid was to staff the first 4 aircraft with the 10 aircraft to be delivered within the first 20 months of the contract.

My apologies, the 330F bid was indeed for the first 4 aircraft.

At this point, I wouldn’t expect another vacancy until late summer or early fall.
