HAL doesn’t pay for lodging while training in your domicile. If your domicile is CVG, you would get a hotel while training in HNL.

With pretty much everyone going to MIA for training, the hotels and per diem are paid throughout for aircraft training. If you’re CVG based, then while in HNL your hotel would be covered.

The Amazon flying might not be forever as those contracts are renewable, so just because it’s happening now it doesn’t mean it’ll be renewed when the contract expires 10 years from now. The airplanes are owned by Amazon so they can plug and play with any carrier as they wish. I just don’t want you to be stuck commuting to HNL for however many years if your intent is to be on that side of the US for the foreseeable future. If you’re ok with taking that risk, then obviously go for it. Best of luck!

That’s always in the back of my mind. It’s a heck of a commute to HNL from Indiana! Not sure if I’d be willing to do that. If I was out west then sure but that’s not the case.

Is there much interest among the existing Hawaiian pilots to change bases to CVG? I'm curious about the upgrade time for a new-hire specifically interested in the CVG operations. I understand that Amazon's shrewd nature is a threat to the long-term viability of that domicile, but after a few years making a solid income on that contract, moving to Hawaii isn't necessarily the most hateful outcome for some pilots. So with that said, how junior is the left seat out of CVG expected to go, or is it still a tossup this early in the game?

CA is at 6 years for 330F (CVG) and 330PAX (HNL). Thats only with 2 freight planes on the vacancy bid. Once we get to 10 freight planes it could go as low as 2-3 years on the freight side.

Does anyone know how many days off/month are common at HAL? I heard that the 320 gets roughly 18 days off/month due to how long their legs are and being mostly 2 day trips.

As a new hire on reserve you’ll get 12 days off on a 30 day month, and 13 days off on a 31 day month.

With a line, sure you could swing 16-18 off without a ton of difficulty.

1400hr regional FO here. Would love to make HAL my final destination, should I hold off on applying until 1500hrs? Also are there any events where I can network with HAL pilots to have an internal recommendation?
