Before ground school starts, an email will go out asking for preferences. Based on last four social (lowest being more senior), you will receive what aircraft you will be assigned after everyone sends the email back. I assume they would do the same with bases. It's not a guarantee, but it most likely won't change.

I would hope that they would adjust this process so that there would be a guarantee prior to class start of where they would be going considering there is a vast difference between the freight ops and pax ops. Maybe they will run separate ground schools. One strictly freight and the other for pax ops. We haven’t had a new hire class with freighter category before so it’s kinda unknown at the moment how they will handle it.

I sure hope so. People are considering Hawaiian just based on the Amazon flying, and guaranteeing that will make everyones lives easier.

Plus, if I was a local, I would be little nervous risking the chance that I could end up in CVG.Everyone wins if classes are separated.

The only issue I see is let's say nobody wants freighters. You can't force people into starting a class date for the freighter operation. The only way to prevent that is to have a combined newhire class and allocate so many slots to freighters.

Shocking that they would run a class drop like every other airline in the country. You think DL, AA, SWA or UA is guaranteeing aircraft and bases before training just to appease newhires? pilots for years came here for $36/hr. Surely, they can accept widebody 330F off the bat for Amazon for a year at worst? Times certainly have changed over the last few decades!

Funny, with the COL, 1st year pay will actually go quite far in CVG. Or you could rent a garage in HI for $2k/mnth. Unless you just hate being able to afford nice things for a whole year, there ae worse things to get awarded out of training. Great airplane, nice schedule, cheap place to be based, other airlines offer LGA, JFK, LAX, ORD for newhires. It could be worse.

Sure they can, if they accept the job. We can only hope in the interview they ask, “ if hired, will you accept a position in the freighter”? Just like back in Continental Airlines days, the question was if you’d go to Guam. They took their chances, or ended up in EWR.

UPS pilots typically start in Anchorage WITHOUT Gateways...so... yeah... CVG with optional gateways ain't that bad. But what do I know, I'm not into the "don't hurt anyones feelings" narrative.

Hey guys, I was just looking at the job requirements and noticed "Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance".

Are they making everyone get this? I'm about to apply but I'm a green card holder so don't think I'm eligible for the security clearance.

Not sure how you get a security clearance, but you wouldn’t be the only green card holder. I’ve met others recently so I’m sure it’s not an issue
