Of the two people I know who have left Hawaiian for other airlines, both left for west coast bases…

Exactly. Even if we did have a west coast base, it would last only the length of the contract. Why risk it at Hawaiian when it's close to guarantee at others. Not to mention better benefits at other carriers.

From what I understand this expansion to the mainland is part of a long term growth/diversification strategy.

So are we still on an October/November time frame for hearing something?

Let's hope so. I would like to think Hawaiian learned after covid that diversification is key.

With a pending recession on the horizon. How are the HAL pilots feeling about the company? Especially the NHs? I’d hate to be furloughed if I took the CJO at HAL since not a lot of people would be below me

If it’s the company you ultimately want to work for, then take the chance as you would any other airline. If you want stability then go work for the government. Even profitable airlines close bases.

With a West Coast base, immediate 330 positions, and with these rumored deadheads from HNL, yeah I could see some making this a decider in staying if it was at all remotely accurate rumors.

Assuming the Amazon rumor is true, and initially deadheads are the plan to start... Think about all those mainland commuters (especially the ones near the West Coast) Paid 5 hrs on Day 1 to not have to DH. Either fly in later that night, or for those living in SoCal, drive to work and hour prior to the flight.

Look at those Maui guys, they bank like 8-10 hrs a month free and clear for DH's. Now make those free DH's 5+ hrs.

Again, if the rumors are at all accurate, the schedule would be a big factor in who goes for it IMO.

I mentioned this exact issue about 2 pages back.

Myself, pessimistic:

Considering Japan, the Yen, the forecasted deep recession (just take anything Janet Yellen says and make it way worse), SWA neighbor island competition fare wars. Pretty much my only real hope for the company for the next couple years is this Amazon rumor.

I'd like to think they learned a lot from their mistakes. Although they would never admit any mistakes.

J&J safe and effective anyone? I used CNN to avoid any fact checkers
