Default GA to NYC

I cover LGA, JFK, and EWR, and I'm getting tired of making the 3-5 hour drive from my house to work.

Consequently, I'm toying with the idea of buying a Cessna and using it to fly to Long Island, then driving a beater to work. Timewise, it'll probably work out roughly similarly once I figure in flight planning, preflighting, etc. Funwise, I suspect I'll come out way ahead.

So, has anyone here done this? If so, which airport did you use? Was it worth it?

Just cynical old me but I'd NEVER EVER consider a light GA aircraft reliable transportation to get to work.
Single engine, single pilot, single system everything is one...
Two....weather and any other jazz that may interfere with your plans.
As far as light GA aircraft is concerned: time to spare go by air.
Keep in mind you'll have to make the fly/drive decision with enough time remaining for you to....drive.
Three...something decent with wings will cost enough as a very fun car...with a Hemi...and seat warmers and A/C and a Bose sound system.

E-class don't come with no Hemi baby.
Buy 'Murican or you may get deported.

I'm actually more interested in state of the art semi-autonomous technology than engine performance. 3-5 hours on I-95 is more an exercise in tedium than an opportunity to punch it.
