Default Living on a lake...

I've lived on a lake my entire life, so not living on one just doesn't make sense to me. The problem is that my lake is 45 minutes+ from our int. airport(MCI in Kansas City). Anyone know of any good lakes that would be a bit closer to an airport?

.. and where do most airline pilots live?

Living within 45 min of work isn't out of the question with most airlines. I know the Reserve call-out time is 1.5 hrs for quite a few for example

well unfortunately MCI isn't even a hub for anyone... so i'd have to fly and commute even further in addition to my 45 minute drive.

I'd get over living by a body of water for a few years. Unless you plan on living in a van down by the river during your FO days \

Seriously, live where ever you want if you can stay within your means.

I've spent my whole life on the coast wade fishing in the salt flats and currently reside in the desert. Talk about putting in your dues.

For me, I want to move up to Lake Winnipesaukee in NH. Its worth the two hour drive to BOS to go to work. If just think, you spend so much time in busy terminals, nosiy ramps, that after a 4 day trip there is nothing better than coming home to the lake. Smell of the fresh pines, hearing the boats on the lake, the water lapping the shore. Peace and serenity. The winter time is just as good evening quieter. I can't wait that time to come. Unfortunately, I am goining to need a min of 800k to get a good house right on the lake. So I am willing to compromise though. I don't mind walking to lake or short drive. So my advice, live where really want to live. Though I know commuting is no fun. What other airlines have hub in MCI? Just my two cents.

Lake Norman has mostly huge houses on it. It is where a lot of the NASCAR guys live. In Texas (which is generally cheaper) you have quite a few lakes within about an hour of DFW.
