Thanks
Thanks for sharing that Joel, it had me in tears thinking about my dad. He wore the Navy uniform, but when he passed away there must have been about 100 guys (of all uniforms and stripes) from the VFW who showed up at his funeral. I knew my father was rather involved in Veteran's affairs, but I had no idea the extent of the brotherhood that he lived amongst. I was so distraught when he died and they just took over. They arranged the military burial, I got a very nice letter from President Clinton commending my father's service, and I know that they were probably behind that as well. The gun salute, the folding of the flag, all of it, but when it came time for the playing of Taps...well...My son is a gifted musician, and has been his whole life, trumpet being one of his main instruments. He's 23 now, but when his grandpa died, he was just 12. The bugler stepped aside and let his grandson play Taps flawlessly. I can't really describe the emotion I felt.
Anyway, that was a beautiful tribute.

Had a similar experience when a member of our ROMEO's[retired old men eating out] passed away last year. There was an honor guard outside the church[he was former USN]. After everyone had gathered about, his name was called out 3 times by one member of the honor guard. After no response on the 3rd call, another member said something to the effect that " His mission is accomplished, and he has returned home". Between that and taps, the rifle salute and folded flag, it was QUITE a moving ceremony. With my luck, I'll be in a Hefty bag on the street waiting for the trash pick up.
