Default United Global Upgrade

This ad was found on Craigslist. Is it a scam? Pay an upgrade consulting fee for something that is supposedly free? He wants your name and itinerary information?

I have one United Airlines Global Premier Upgrade available for upgrading any (including international) flights to Business or First class.

Upgrade is free, my consulting advice is $450. Payment can be made via Paypal and upgrades will be applied once payment is made.

Please send me the passenger name, six digits itinerary confirmation #, and flight number. I will check if your ticket is upgradable and can apply upgrade online for you.

Probably a scam. It might be possible to use status or miles to upgrade a friend you're flying with, or even possibly upgrade someone you're not flying with but even if it's possible it's probably still a scam.

It might be a scam but I am thinking not. In days past a UA 1k did occasionally sell their SWUs for $$ and $450 seems about right esp since the cost to upgrade has gone up. To use a SWU you had to have the persons name and internary info.
I was a 1k for about 5 yrs...I did a lot of d/h.

Scam or not, I think I'll just do what I've always done - squeeze myself into a fetal position in my Economy seat next time I'm headed to NRT.

Doubt it.
There are websites out there (one in particular) where people do trade (or occasionally buy) things such as upgrade coupons.
Might be against TOS but it still happens and you can give away the coupons if you want.
