Default Handgun Recommendations for Flightsuit....

Hello All,

As some may know I work for an anonymous Medivac carrier in Alaska. We are allowed to fly with a concealed weapon and I believe I will start to do so. My usual CC of choice is a Sig Sauer 229. I Carry it either in a Conceal purse (don't laugh!) or at the small of my back with a FBI cant.

I am 6'0" and 120 soaking wet. The Sig can be tricky to get away with concealing effectively. I can only wear certain, bulkier clothes if I choose the FBI cant. My Job requires me to wear a flight suit.

I won't take the chance of a purse "mounted" handgun, since it won't always be on my person. I am finding it hard to believe I will be able to conceal the Sig effectively. I think a new, "smaller" handgun may be in my future. Any recommendations from my flight suit wearing brethren? I figure I could keep the FBI cant with an altered flight suit (some kind of zipper allowing access to the small of the back) or perhaps an ankle holster (with suit modification) Handgun wise, I will admit, I like it clean and simple, it's why I carry a double action.

Let me know any handgun recommendations, flight suit mods or any ideas you think may be useful. Pardon the expression, but fire at will.

Thanks ahead of time APC-ers.

PS, please only recommend handguns you (or perhaps your wife...or small boyfriend? ) have used. I say small because I do have small hands and have found some safetys hard to engage with my size hand/fingers. I'm not "circus midget" small, I have gotten by with the Sig for a long time now, but it has been a factor now and then with friends guns.

Since you already carry a SIG, have you consider the p938 or p238 (9mm and .380 respectively)? I have shot both but never carried them. A friend and his wife both carry them and they love them. He is a small guy and she is maybe 5-2 and 100ish pounds.

Some others I have shot that could be a consideration.

Springfield XDs
Glock G42/43

For a little more capacity check out the Springfield XD Mod 2 subcompact (9 or 45). I recently shot one of these an I am considering picking one up.
https://youtu.be/oD_5aJXCNv0?t=14m40s The Mod 2 is the middle gun here and he is comparing it to a subcompact Glock and another XD line of gun.

Unfortunately, the military trusts me with a 30 million dollar aircraft, but not enough for me to concealed carry, so I don't have any flight suit mod ideas.

Beretta Nano 9mm sub compact (6+1). Great size, nice grip, perfect for your size and circumstances

For what purpose? Humans? Wildlife?

I'm also partial to the Sig P938 which is my carry gun. I've used iwb and ankle carry. Small and reliable.

Does the wildlife in your neck of the woods discriminate between concealed and open carry when picking a victim? Of course if radial is worried about Grizzlies, almost anything could work as the goal is just to slow down the other guy and not the bear.

This would be for the 2 legged variety of animals. If it's going to be effective against our Bears, there's no way I can conceal it on my frame. I can always use it on myself if a Griz starts munchin' on me.

You could go sig 224.

Also, get a leather jacket with a mod- I believe pops does jacket mods with an internal holster for a 1911 style .45. It's pretty cold in Alaska so may be useful year round

I gotta go with the Glock 43. I've been a Sig person for years, but I have a 42 and a 43 and love them!
